To ensure your XPEL Windshield Protection Film continues to provide optimal protection and clarity, follow these care and maintenance guidelines. It is the purchaser's responsibility maintain and care for their windshield protection film to maximize its lifespan.
1. INITIAL CARE
After installation, avoid washing your vehicle for at least 48 hours to allow the film to properly adhere and cure. XPEL also recommends purchasing and installing a new set of premium windshield wiper blades after the completion of the installation. XPEL Windshield Protection Film is Self-Healing. However, its ability to self heal is limited.
2. WASHING GUIDELINES
For best results, hand wash your vehicle with XPEL Wash Solution or Foam Soap and a soft microfiber mitt, rinsing thoroughly. When using a pressure washer, keep the nozzle at least 36 inches away, avoid spraying edges directly, and use a 40-degree nozzle. Avoid strong chemicals, solvents, and abrasive tools to protect the film’s coating. Always dry with a clean microfiber towel to prevent water spots, and avoid air-drying in direct sunlight.
3. STAIN AND CONTAMINANT REMOVAL
Remove contaminants like bird droppings and bug splatter as soon as possible to prevent
staining. Use warm water and a pH neutral soap (XPEL Wash Solution or Foam Soap). In an emergency on-the-go you can
apply XPEL SiO2 Waterless Wash to the affected area and wipe off with microfiber towel. For stubborn contaminants like tree sap and tar, use a 50/50 Water & Isopropyl Alcohol in a spray bottle.
Spray the mixture directly onto microfiber towel and wipe the affected area.
4. FILM MAINTENANCE
To maintain the clarity and appearance of the film, clean the film regularly with XPEL Wash Solution or
Foam Soap. For an all-in-one solution, the XPEL TPU Windshield Protection Film Maintenance Kit (M1291, sold separately)
includes XPEL Waterless Wash, Waterspot Remover, and Glass Cleaner. Do not apply waxes or polishes that contain dyes, abrasive compounds, or solvents directly onto the film.
5. WINTER CARE
Snow and Ice Removal: Avoid using sharp tools or metal scrapers that could damage the film.
6. WIPER BLADES
We recommend replacing your windshield wiper blades regularly to prevent scratches or damage to the film. Avoid using windshield wiper blades on excessively dusty windshield to prevent permanently scratching the XPEL windshield protection film. Ensure that windshield wipers stay clean. What causes windshields to scratch is the wiper blades wiping a windshield with dust or contaminants.
